Reddit Is Quietly Becoming the Most Important Marketing Channel You Aren’t Measuring
I recently built an online store. As part of the process, I asked ChatGPT which eCommerce tools I should use. The recommendations were interesting.
The warnings were even more interesting.
The AI didn’t just tell me which tools to consider. It told me which tools to avoid and why. (yikes!) It recommended different combinations of products depending on my use case. For one scenario it recommended Shopify + Printify. For another it suggested Printify + Etsy. For another it suggested a completely different stack altogether.
Naturally, I probed, asked questions, and clicked through the citations.
A surprising number pointed back to Reddit, not websites or analyst sites or even review sites. REDDIT.
For the past twenty years, we marketers have been optimizing for search engines. We obsessed over rankings, backlinks, keywords, domain authority, and technical SEO. And we STILL need to do those things. But now buyers are getting their answers from AI and AI is increasingly citing Reddit when answering subjective questions.
In fact, Reddit ranks a the most cited domain in AI generated answers. Let that sink in.
Reddit ranks as the most-cited domain in AI-generated answers, followed by YouTube and LinkedIn, based on a new analysis of 30 million sources by Peec AI, an AI search analytics tool.
The Trust Problem and Why Reddit is Trusted
Think about how most B2B websites are written. Every vendor claims they are:
The “leading platform” in ____
The easiest solution
The most innovative company
The fastest growing provider
The problem is that buyers don’t trust a vendor to objectively describe themselves. (AI knows this too). So when an LLM is trying to answer a question like: “What is the best CRM for startups?” or “Should I use HubSpot or Salesforce?” AI doesn’t just rely on vendor websites. It looks for evidence from people who have actually used the products. Which is why some review sites are popular.
This is where Reddit becomes valuable.
Your brand is most definitely being talked about in some /subreddit. Hundreds of practitioners are discussing implementation challenges, pricing frustrations, support experiences, feature gaps, alternatives, and real-world results.
In many cases, Reddit contains the most honest information available on the internet. Sometimes brutally honest, which is why it’s considered a trusted source by AI and others.
The Rise of Community-Led Discovery
Marketers have spent years thinking about search intent. Our goal is someone searches, clicks, evaluates and then (hopefully) converts. That’s the dream.
AI has changed that process. Instead of receiving ten blue links, they receive a synthesized answer. That answer may be influenced by dozens of Reddit discussions the buyer never sees.
The conversation becomes the content. The content becomes the citation. The citation becomes the answer. This is why everyone is obsessing over AEO and GEO.
For example, I’ve done research on a topic and have questioned the AI for links to the sources. Many times (but not always), the AI comes back and says that it just aggregated the answer or came to that conclusion given the information that is out there. It basically is summarizing the research it does into a “fact” which may or may not be true for your brand.
Why This Matters For Brands
Many companies completely ignore Reddit because they think their audience is not on Reddit.
In reality, Reddit is becoming one of the largest repositories of customer sentiment on the internet. And remember, both Google and OpenAI have signed licensing agreements with Reddit for access to Reddit content back in fall of 2025.

Whether you participate or not, people are already talking about:
Your product
Your competitors
Your pricing
Your support
Your implementation experience
Your category
And increasingly, AI systems are listening. You can dominate Google rankings and still lose the AI recommendation battle if the community narrative isn’t favorable.
What Smart Marketing Teams Are Doing
1. Monitoring Community Conversations
Most companies track brand mentions on LinkedIn, X, and review sites. Few actively monitor Reddit.
That needs to change. Tools like Profound, Ahrefs, SEMRush, F5Bot, GummySearch and others are good for this.
Free tools include:
F5Bot — email alerts whenever keywords are mentioned on Reddit (and Hacker News)
Reddit’s own search
Google search using: site:reddit.com "Your Brand"
2. Learning Why Customers Actually Buy
Marketers often believe they know why customers choose them. Reddit conversations reveal the reasons buyers actually care. Those are not always the same thing. After you do customer interviews, compare to a Reddit search.
3. Learning Why Customers Don’t Buy
The most valuable feedback often comes from people who rejected your product. Reddit is full of those conversations. You can also ask the AI search engine, “why wouldn’t someone buy “your brand”?’ to give you some insight.
4. Empowering Employees to Participate
The best Reddit contributions rarely come from marketing. They come from practitioners, engineers, product leaders, customer success teams, and customers themselves. Authentic participation creates trust. Corporate messaging does not.
At VMware, they have their engineers actively participate in Reddit to support and answer questions. It’s beneficial to both the product and eng teams, as well as sales and marketing as long as you have that feedback loop and alignment.
5. Monitoring Community Sentiment Like You Monitor Pipeline
Reddit doesn’t tell you who is buying, but it influences what people believe. Questions, comparisons, recommendations, complaints, and implementation discussions all shape your reputation. Increasingly, they also shape the answers AI gives about your company. Your competitors may not be paying attention to Reddit, but you should be.
AI SEO (”LLM SEO”) Tracking Tools
A newer category of tools tracks whether your company is recommended by AI systems and where those recommendations originate.
Current leaders include:
Profound
Ahrefs Brand Radar
Peec (popular with startups)
Goodie AI
Scrunch AI
These platforms increasingly analyze Reddit because Reddit discussions heavily influence AI-generated answers.
The New SEO
I don’t think SEO is dead. You still have to do the basics. But it has evolved beyond just optimized pages. Now it’s about optimizing conversations and paying attention to sites like Reddit and others that are influencing how your brand shows up in search.

"The conversation becomes the content. The content becomes the citation. The citation becomes the answer." That's the best line in here, and what it's describing isn't really new — it's the oldest mechanism in crowd behavior, just running on machines now.
A claim repeated enough by enough independent voices stops being treated as opinion and starts being treated as fact, whether or not it's actually true.
AI didn't invent that. It just automated it and removed the years it used to take. Vendors have always lost the "what's true about us" argument the moment enough strangers agreed on a different answer without them there to argue features and benefits.
Do you think that makes brand reputation more honest now that AI is doing the counting, or just faster and harder to see coming?
